Five reasons you need a goal
“If you want to be happy, set a goal that commands your thoughts, liberates your energy and inspires your hopes.” Andrew Carnegie
Goals are essentially your commitment to achieving your ambition.
It’s incredibly difficult to get what you want without knowing exactly what that means. Not to mention, studies have shown links between setting goals and higher levels of achievement.
Below are five reasons why setting goals for yourself is vital to your success.
1. Goals create a vision to strive for
Without knowing what your destination is, how can you ever be sure that you’re going in the right direction?
2. Turn treacherous mountains into staircases
If you have a goal set, you can transform something that originally seems daunting into smaller, less intimidating steps.
3. Prove your abilities to yourself
Once you’ve completed one of the smaller steps, it can act as proof to yourself that you can manage to climb the whole mountain. If you can take the first step, why not the rest?
4. Focus
Setting a goal provides clarity on what you want to achieve. It removes distractions and motivates you to reach your target.
5. Hold yourself accountable
If you don’t have a goal, how can you know where you’re going wrong? If you set a goal and fail, you can identify the source of the problem and start trying to fix it.
